The idea of Leftsiders started years ago. While I was pursuing my degree in Graphic Design I would often resort back to illustration as a form of meditation and self reflection. Sketchpads began to stack up and drawers started to overflow with these seemingly useless drawings. After awhile I started to develop my own style and applied it throughout my illustrations. I knew eventually I wanted to use this style to create something bigger than shoebox drawings tattered with spilt beer, but didn’t know what.
Then came the name. One day an old New Yorker stumbled his way into my house and began criticising me simply for growing up in Southern California. He hated the culture and belittled me in comparison to the all mighty East Coast. Among other things, he started calling me and my friends “just a bunch of Leftsiders”. At the time I wanted to tell him to kick rocks but long story short, the name stuck.
Leftsiders represents West Coast culture built from independence and individuality. Be different, rock your shit and always remember to rep what’s left!
